- When did you and Damien first meet?
I met Damien many years ago in Dublin, before O was finished… We played
a show together and shared the dressing room. Had a great chat about the
West Coast of Ireland and stayed in touch.
- I heard you inspired Damien song "Dogs". Can you tell us if that's
true?
I don’t know… I know it was written while he was spending some time in
Los Angeles… We were all hanging out quite a lot, going on hikes and
seeing friends.
- I love the addition that you bring to Damien's music.
Thank you for saying that, sometimes I feel a little bit shy about what
is working and what is not… But I am having fun.
- Is there a Damien song you wish you had written?
No, there is not. I wish I could write as well...
- Do you think your collaborations with other musicians can influence
your work with Pedestrian as well?
Absolutely. In both ways… Meaning that I always save a little more for
my own stuff but then I usually end up discovering new things working
with other people…
- If you could go back in time and play with a great musician from
the past, who would it be?
George Harrison of the Beatles… He was so peaceful and kind
in his playing.
- What is the most inspirational record you've ever listened to?
OK Computer.
- Which song in your own repertoire are you particularly proud of and
why?
Overwhelmed… Because it encompasses everything I like about music.
- When you write a song, what comes first, music or lyrics?
No rhyme or reason but usually the music.
- Your songs are quite personal. Are they all autobiographic?
Sometimes they are directly autobiographic and sometimes I put myself in
someone else’s shoes…
- Is there a song you always want to play live, or a song that you
never want to play?
I never want to play Come Down After because I don’t think we do it
justice…
I always want to play Silent Faces.
- What is your favorite Pedestrian song?
Silent Faces.
- Overwhelmed and Red Tape are on both the Electric and the Acoustic
EPs. Which versions of these songs do you prefer?
I prefer the newst version of Overwhelmed from the Ghostly Life CD and
the electric version of Red Tape. I think the acoustic EP is weak and I
am embarrassed by it at times… I am also my worst critic.
- Any chance to see Paper Thin on the next record? No Paper Thin, only for B-Sides.
- Will the Ghostly Life b-sides be released as a cd?
Yes, there will be a cd of sorts for the B-Sides, before year’s end.
- If you had to describe the main theme running through the album
"Ghostly Life", what would it be?
Personal reactions to the world I live in… Perhaps a lost soul searching
to connect with anyone who can slow down long enough to listen.
- The artwork seems to describe the "suffocate in ghostly life"
feeling. How did you come up with this idea?
It all started with the photo on the front cover of the bird and g
rew
from there. Sean Odell and I spent a long time working out the smallest
details… It is pretty deep if you wanted to take the time to look deeper
into the art, you will find many secrets. There is something about a
lonely bird I relate to and as the artwork grows, you see the bird
connecting with others and a community being built… Hence, ending with
Ghostly Life and the lyrics “I’m fine”…
- How would you describe your new stuff? When will the next album be
out?
The new stuff is so band oriented… I will take an idea in and throw it
everyone and a couple of hours later, we have a song… It may still be
shit but it is done. After enough of those days
, we sift through the
shit and pick the best ideas.
The new record will be finished this year, out next year. It is heavier
in theme and music. Still ambient and dynamic but for sure heavier.
- Can you tell us something about this new song, With This I Do Dare?
It is a song about being at your absolute final breaking point, be it
with drugs or love… And instead of fucking yourself off a bridge or
doing something stupid, you turn it around and heal. Realizing that it
is not worth it, it never is… Life is a gift.
- Talking about the "Act" section, it is definitely very different
from the other communities on the web. That section allows your fans to
be directly involved with the band. How important is this connection to
you?
The most important thing in the world for me is being part of a
productive community who do what they can to contribute to the planet…
We can not all be takers. I do it through music and the “fans” so it is
very real for me to have a place where we can go and do something
positive… As we grow, so will the Fund and we will take it to a place
where it makes a huge difference… .
- Who would you like to work with in the future? Any goals, musical
or otherwise you would like to achieve?
I would love to work with talented people… I would love for this music
to get out to as people as possible and let them decide if they like it
or not.
It is funny because I have achieved so many goals through playing other
people’s music and now I really want to achieve the same through my own.
- The last question: will Pedestrian be playing in Italy (July 17th,
18th and 19th) too?
No, I am so sorry we are not but we are trying to get out to Europe as
soon as we can. We are trying very hard… Help us make it happen!
